PAS rejects any coalition with UMNO

When I read this news, I breathed a real huge sigh of relief. I was already prepared for the worst should the decision go the other way and PAS, for some strange and bizarre reason, decides to form a pact with the United Melaun National Organisation, or in short U.M.N.O. In fact, I was already contemplating leaving the party should my worst fears be realised and PAS abandons its principles and work with this assabiyyah/secularist/rasuah party.

Pas has rejected any coalition government with Umno or the Barisan Nasional at both state or federal level, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said today, ending the controversial unity talks with its ideological nemesis that have rocked both the ruling and opposition coalitions.

“The issue of Umno’s offer to Pas therefore does not arise,” Abdul Hadi said after a rare joint meeting between Pas’s central working committee and its highest decision-making body, the Majlis Syura Ulamak (religious scholars consultative council).

Kudos goes to the party leadership for their wise decision on the matter. The time for us is nigh and we are closing on Putrajaya. I can feel it.

Reviving Ismail Faruqi Online

Who was Dr Ismail Raji Al-Faruqi?

Ismail Raji al-Faruqi (January 1, 1921 – May 27, 1986) was a Palestinian-American philosopher who was recognized by his peers as an authority on Islam and comparative religion. He spent several years at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, then taught at several universities in North America, including McGill University in Montreal. He was Professor of Religion at Temple University, where he founded and chaired the Islamic Studies program.

The Ismail Faruqi Online website was first initiated by myself after I contacted DSAI and he put me in touch IIIT to work in collaboration with them in 2006. Due to several outstanding issues and personal matters that I had to deal with, the site was put on a backburner in 2007 but remains active.

I have collected various papers published by Dr. Faruqi during this period (and with some help from IIIT) but I have decided to take over the project 100%.

I oppose any “muzakarah” with UMNO

It goes without question that as a life member of PAS, I oppose any idea or suggestion for a muzakarah (roundtable agreement) with the secularists of UMNO. I do not think that there will be any benefit into initiating such moves, as past experiences have shown. Also, these secularists sure have a bad track record when it comes to “cooperating” with Muslims who struggle for the cause of Islam. Take the Palestinian experience for example. Remember the so-called Hamas-Fatah “unity government”? Turns out that those secularists in Fatah have an axe to grind and nearly succeeded in their coup to oust Hamas from government in Gaza. Fortunately the Hamas leadership are not stupid donkeys which Fatah thought them to be.

Officially engaged

Never thought that this was possible two years ago but its true. We are now officially engaged. I came to her house early at around 5pm to help out with the preparations, then I sped off to the Masjid Jamek Pontian (and to answer a previous question, yes, its the Pontian located before Tanjung Piai) to meet up with my entourage and to bring them there at around 8pm. It all went pretty smoothly I feel. In just an hour the package was upgraded from Girlfriend 1.0 to Fiancee 2.0.

So now that I have no more personal distractions (at least for the time being), you should see me going back to my usual programme for this blog pretty soon.

I am getting engaged tomorrow

In just less than twenty four hours (Saturday), our engagement will be held at Pontian, which is where she is staying. I am feeling a bit jittery about the whole thing but I know that this is the right thing to do as the next step in our relationship and towards our eventual marriage, insya’ Allah. The preparations for the engagement gifts are nearly ready, all that is left is to wait for the Big Day and go through the engagement ceremony.
