A visit to Shah Alam mosque

April 25th, 2008

I was at the Shah Alam mosque at around 6.30 AM for the Fajr prayers three days ago as I thought it would be a good idea to visit the mosque after so long. Shah Alam Mosque, or its official name, Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (oh my, that is a mouthful!) is the State Mosque for Selangor Darul Ehsan. Outside the mosque there is a nice garden-like boulevard that stretches out to the gate. Hmm, I wonder if they allow family picnics there? Then I could bring her along with my picnic time picnic basket and probably munch on something while I enjoy the view.

The last time I was at the mosque was back in 1996 if I recall correctly, when my aunt was still staying in the area. This time when I arrived, they were renovating the inner area of the masjid and therefore there were signs of construction going on. It still does not detract from the beauty and the splendour of the mosque. I can tell you one thing, the interior of the mosque is enormous, larger than most mosques that I have been to. It was great being at the mosque, for sure. It exudes a sense of serenity and an inner peace for me.
