Another defeat for Islam Liberals
I have my reservations about the AK Party of Turkey (which I am not willing to divulge at the moment) but certainly this news fills me with a sense of euphoria and pure joy:
Secular Turks Fear End Of Head Scarf Ban
Bill To End Islamic Head Scarf Ban At Turkish Universities Raises Secular FearsA bill that would lift a decades-old ban on women wearing head scarves at universities was submitted to parliament on Tuesday, worrying secular Turks who fear the government is raising the profile of Islam.
Deniz Baykal, leader of the pro-secular Republican People’s Party, called the attempt to lift the ban a “threat against the republic.”
The founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, banned religious attire in daily life. Although the country is majority Muslim, the ban has been vigorously enforced in public offices and schools since a 1980 military coup.
Under the new proposal, female students would be allowed to wear head scarves at universities as long as they tied them under the chin, leaving their faces more exposed.
This reminds me of Qur’an 9:32 as follows:
“They desire to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths. But Allah will bring His Light to a completion, even though the unbelievers detest it.” (Qur’an, 9:32)
A total defeat of the Liberals and Secularists in Turkey in the far future is a possibility. If they fall in Turkey, the domino effect will happen throughout the Muslim world, insha’allah. May Allah make this vision come true, ameen.
