Critical Thoughts

There was nothing else to do but to laugh out loud….and I mean really loud, after reading this ridiculous statement from the caretaker Deputy Prime Minister.

The leadership and administration of the country in the last 51 years has been in accordance with Islamic principles, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“Islam carries a wide meaning. For instance, welfare work is one aspect that is enjoined by the religion, so is the provision of job opportunities,” he told reporters after attending a meet-the-people session at Sekolah Menengah Kubang Kerian II, here Sunday.

What nonsense, Najib. Try telling that to Sharlinie and the late Nurin Jazlin, for if if this is true, their kidnapping (and in the latter’s case, rape and murder) will not have happened. Crime is on the increase, there are toll and petrol hikes and this village idiot is telling me that this country is run on “Islamic principles”?? Nonsense!

I also wonder if he knows that during his father’s era (the “fifty one years ago” talk he is referring to), drinking alcohol and dancing at night clubs were the norm? Or that fifty one years ago, it was acceptable for someone to indulge in “social welfare”, a.k.a. buying lottery numbers? If you want a hint of the decadence of the Muslims in those darker periods of our history, catch a P. Ramlee film sometime, will you?

This country has never been run on “Islamic principles”, as loathe as I am to say this. What we have are only a cosmetic makeup that is easily washed away. I know that the “Islamic belt” states up north are far too smart to be taken in by such wishy-washy statements from Najib and his ilk.
