PAS rejects any coalition with UMNO

July 31st, 2008

When I read this news, I breathed a real huge sigh of relief. I was already prepared for the worst should the decision go the other way and PAS, for some strange and bizarre reason, decides to form a pact with the United Melaun National Organisation, or in short U.M.N.O. In fact, I was already contemplating leaving the party should my worst fears be realised and PAS abandons its principles and work with this assabiyyah/secularist/rasuah party.

Pas has rejected any coalition government with Umno or the Barisan Nasional at both state or federal level, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said today, ending the controversial unity talks with its ideological nemesis that have rocked both the ruling and opposition coalitions.

“The issue of Umno’s offer to Pas therefore does not arise,” Abdul Hadi said after a rare joint meeting between Pas’s central working committee and its highest decision-making body, the Majlis Syura Ulamak (religious scholars consultative council).

Kudos goes to the party leadership for their wise decision on the matter. The time for us is nigh and we are closing on Putrajaya. I can feel it.

  1. hai MENJ, I’m making my rounds of opposition-related blogs, to assist UMNO understand your grievences, or your misunderstandings about Islam. I’m not surprised with your sigh of relief. Had the PAS decision be vice-versa, I wonder which political party would you join.

[MENJ: I would have just left until PAS returns to its core or another Islamic movement takes over the "job" of Islamic struggle.]

One thing surprised me though. Haven’t you realized that PAS had abandoned its very basic PRINCIPLES by NOT INCLUDING the objective of setting up an Islamic state in its manifesto. Do not tell me that you have not read your own party’s manifesto. I can forgive you if you overlooked ’stated misssions’ of UMNO in UMNO Constitution.

[MENJ: Being a NEGARA BERKEBAJIKAN is part of an Islamic state.]

When a political party issue its manifesto, it means you are declaring what the party intends to do if given mandate by the rakyat. Don’t you realized that PAS has transplanted the familiar term NEGARA ISLAM with NEGARA KEBAJIKAN? And the word HUDUD is missing!!!

[MENJ: Semantics for the same thing.]

Has PAS leaders become like those Ahli Kitab who were condemned by God for ACCEPTING THE TRUTH when it benefit them, and HIDING THE TRUTH when it may harm them? Although I have chosen to work for Islam using UMNO as my WADAH or VEHICLE, I follow up closely what is happening in PAS. I would like to see PAS to strictly hold on to its PRINCIPLES. I would like PAS to provide the benchmark which UMNO can compare and be gauged upon.

[MENJ: And 16 years of solid rule in Kelantan has proven that.]

Unfortunately PAS has abandoned many of its basic PRINCIPLES. PAS leaders is repeating the same mistakes like those who left their strategic positions during the Battle of Hudud in order to gather as much war booties as they could grab.

If you were prepared to leave the party had they decide to form government with UMNO, you should have left the party when PAS decided to work with the KAFIR DAP.

[MENJ: So its wrong for PAS to work with non-Muslims but its OK for UMNO to work with KAFIR MCA, KAFIR MIC and KAFIR GERAKAN? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.]

  3. Hai MENJ, In your latest post, you gave a hint that you would have left PAS had PAS Central Committee decided to agree to work with UMNO. The Malays would then question you WHY WOULD YOU ACCEPT WORKING WIYH DAP, a party whic have been consistently opposed any form of Islamic State.

UMNO have for over 50 years been working together with non-malay parties, first with MCA and MIC in the Perikatan Party, and then with more parties like Gerakan, PPP and Sabah and Sarawak- parties. In either Perikatan or BN, UMNO has been the DOMINANT partner. And in the case of BN, non-Malay parties never question the Perkara 153 of our Constitution with regards to ’special provision for Malays and Bumiputras’. Neither did they question the status of Malaysia as an Islamic country.

PR offers a worrying picture for Malays and Muslims. Both PKR and DAP have lots of things in common. Both are SECULAR parties. Anwar may look Islamic, but his PKR party is not. Should anything happens to Anwar, the party most likely will fall into the hands of a circle of lawyers always seen escorting him. PAS’s objectives of upholding the Syariah laws as the highest authority is far cry from that of PKR and DAP.

UMNO never opposed Syariah laws. Infact, under UMNO, Syariah Courts are now in higher position than Civil Courts in certain areas of our legal system.
And UMNO did not oppose Hudud laws. What UMNO opposed was the HASTINESS the Hudud laws were tabled in Kelantan and Trengganu, so much so, there were so many defective provisions that would only tarnish the perception of non-Muslims about Islam. For example, how would you expect a rape victim to provide four witnesses in court ? We have to hold our ulamas in position of highest respect, but there are those considered as ‘ulamas’ who were ONLY good in matters relating ‘haid and nifas’(quote from Ayatullah Khomeini).

If PAS truly want to implement Islamic State in Malaysia, UMNO is the ONLY viable partner. But PAS should know how to give due respect to their fellow Muslim brothers.
