  • “Witness the half-naked man” in Afghanistan

    According to Al-Jazeera English:

US soldiers have been encouraged to spread the message of their Christian faith among Afghanistan’s predominantly Muslim population, video footage obtained by Al Jazeera appears to show. Military chaplains stationed in the US air base at Bagram were also filmed with bibles printed in the country’s main Pashto and Dari languages. In one recorded sermon, Lieutenant-Colonel Gary Hensley, the chief of the US military chaplains in Afghanistan, is seen telling soldiers that as followers of Jesus Christ, they all have a responsibility “to be witnesses for him”.

They have been doing this in every nation they have occupied previously, so it came as no surprise to me. After all, the tactic has always been (and will always be) BIBLE + JESUS = FOOD. What is sickening is that these worshippers of a half-naked Roman criminal swinging from a cross are getting away with their Bible-thumping in a predominantly Muslim nation, with no outcry from other countries. I would think that da’wah movements such as WAMY or ABIM Outreach should step in to deal with the situation.

    The Taliban question

The Taliban were an Afghan student movement (from Arabic “at-taalibun“, plural for”students”) who rode on populist support and overthrew the mujahideen government at the time who were fighting among themselves and causing divisions in the country. Once the Taliban came to power, they implemented the Shariah and united the various provinces in the country, except for the northern regions. Because of their policies of upholding Islamic laws and their defiance against the “norm”, such as destroying the Bamiyan Buddha statues, they were regarded as “fanatics” and “lunatics”. Such is the stigma associated with the Taliban that even the Islamic movement is not spared from being labelled “another Taliban”, which is rather ironic since such movements mostly stem from the Ikhwaan al-Muslimun in Egypt and are closer to them ideologically, not the Taliban’s. This blogger was himself branded a “Taliban” several times around 2002 – 2003, when the issue was still hot, and even more recently in 2008.

President: Rule of Islam only way for salvation of mankind

    Self-explanatory.

President: Rule of Islam only way for salvation of mankind
    Kabul, Aug 14, IRNA

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Tuesday that rule of Islam on mankind is the only way for salvation of human beings.

“There is no truth on earth but monotheism and following tenets of Islam and there is no way for salvation of mankind but rule of Islam over mankind,” said Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Afghan Sunni and Shiite ulama at Iranian Embassy in Kabul.

President Ahmadinejad said nations are today distancing themselves from culture of materialism and selfishness and look for a new way for their prosperity, that is the path of Islam.
