I don’t know how stupid, ridiculous groups like this one can exist in this country. I might be able to just shrug it off and ignore their existence, were it not for the fact that those involved in PAGE are those silly, elitist, “more English than the English” Malays who think that their English is of a way better standard than me (hah!). Yeah, I like to keep rubbing in the fact that although I was a product of the national-type school curriculum, my English is of a very high standard than any of those people at PAGE can come up with. This is something acknowledged by even my worst enemies.
Oh yeah, the ridiculous PPSMI policy (abbreviation of “Teaching of Science and Mathematics in English”) is finally abolished. The only catch is that it will only be discontinued in 2012….but I guess that is nothing compared to the destruction that this policy could do if it remains in force.
I am overjoyed (and that is probably an understatement) at the news. It doesn’t mean that I will support BN because of this, but finally someone up there got some sense knocked into his head. I have always maintained in the past and until today that to improve one’s command of English, the only way to do so is to encourage reading and a mass overhaul of that dreadful English syllabus that I went through in KBSR and KBSM.
Anyway, to celebrate this momentous occassion, I am off to do the moonwalk. Watch me!
This has been in existence for some time already, I wonder why is it only now that they decide to bring this up in Parliament? The timing for this issue to be raised is certainly most suspect, although I have no objection that this is indeed a serious matter. You can read the parliament hansard here (pp. 143-144).
