Whatever it may be said about him, as someone who considers Penang to be his home state (and that despite the fact that I currently live in Barisan Rakyat-controlled Selangor), I have the outmost respect for Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and that will not change.
Tsu Koon offers to quit as Gerakan chief
Gerakan acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon has offered to resign from the party post, saying that he has to take full responsibility for the party’s dismal performance especially in Penang.
In the general elections yesterday, Gerakan was totally wiped out in the state by the DAP-led opposition, which won 29 out of 40 seats in the island state.
“As a captain of the team, I take full responsibility of what has happened,” he announced the decision at a joint press conference with DAP’s CM-designate Lim Guan Eng at the chief minister’s office in Penang this afternoon.

Stories like this makes me grin from ear to ear as I try to imagine him how he looks like when sobbing. Are you not just curious to find out? Still, sarcasm aside, I do hope that the new Barisan Alternatif government does not become too intoxicated with victory and remember the lesson learnt from 2004 all too well.
Being “overjoyed” at this unexpected and wonderful victory is an understatement. Ecstatic, for the lack of a better word, would be a more apt description. Winning Kedah and retaining Kelantan was the most optimistic thing to be expected out of the General Elections (at least, for me). But bagging Selangor and Perak is truly a very huge bonus. For the first time in history, we are going to see Menteri Besar which are not from the National Front. Three from PAS and one from Keadilan. Not also forgetting one Chief Minister from a certain political party as well, but that is a different story altogether.
Selamat, Aman, Makmur? Bah, forget it. Its Negara Berkebajikan now!
Further to the earlier report, the results here are as confirmed by M’kini:
- SELANGOR FALLS TO OPPOSITION
- PERAK FALLS TO OPPOSITION
- TERENGGANU RETAINED BY BN
WITH SLIM MAJORITY WITH 2/3RDS MAJORITY
Enough from me for now. I am giddy with excitement, I need some sleep.
Frankly, I am quite speechless. I know that the Opposition (especially PAS) will perform better this time around, but I certainly did not expect it to turn into a massive riot! Its simply amazing when you see the voice of the people translating into votes.
As of to date, the following details has been confirmed:
- PENANG FALLS TO OPPOSITION
- KELANTAN RETAINED BY OPPOSITION
- KEDAH FALLS TO OPPOSITION
- SAMY VELLU LOST AT SUNGAI SIPUT
- ZAINUDDIN MAIDIN LOST AT SUNGAI PETANI
- SHAHRIZAT JALIL LOST AT LEMBAH PANTAI
- WAN AZIZAH RETAINS PERMATANG PAUH
I am very excited at this, masha’allah. Change is very near, Malaysia. Change is very near. More news later after I get them confirmed.
