I am getting some kicks and literally rolling on the floor laughing when I saw the acronym definition for MENJ. I really do not know how this happened, nor did I play any part in having this definition written, but I am humbled…truly humbled.
But in no way does this mean that I ever considered myself as an “Islamic scholar”. Even if I do achieve that Islamic Studies degree one day (which I am keen on doing later in life, insha’allah!), I will never regard myself as a “scholar”. Because I believe in the Islamic principle that everyone is in a perpetual state of learning and therefore, I would rather be known as a “student of Islamics and Comparative Religion”, rather than “scholar”.
I watched Jim Carrey’s “Yes Man” two days ago. Like everything else he does, he does things to a really wacky extreme. In a nutshell, the story is about a motivational programme that the main character attended and he puts what he learnt from the programme into practice to the most extreme end possible…with surprisingly good results.
It was actually real fun to watch and I loved every second of it.
The first question that pops into my mind after seeing this is to ask, what kind of a weak, stupid and idiotic “god” is this that some people actually think can “save” me from my sins (nauzubillahi min zaalik)?
