That senile Old Man in BBC Hardtalk
After watching that “interview” (it was more like a Western-bashing session to me), I can say with absolute certainty that the old man has certainly lost his marbles. I certainly do not know why he is accusing the British of calling the Malays “lazy natives”. That was colonialist talk some 100 years back by the likes of Frank Swettenham and R.O. Windstedt and is certainly something not repeated by the British today. For that matter, I doubt even Sackur knew what the old man was talking about. Perhaps that is the reality of his mentality, being trapped in polemics some 100 years ago!
And to be fair to Pak Lah, I think most of the problems that we see today occurring in Malaysia were due to him.
To put it into perspective:
- Ops Lalang was not signed by Pak Lah.
- Mainstream media controls were not initiated by Pak Lah.
- Judiciary problems in 1988 were not started by Pak Lah.
- Massive mega-projects (that turned out to be white elephants) were not initiated by Pak Lah.
And lots more that I cannot even begin to list here. No, I am not in the least interested in defending Pak Lah because that Badawi Melayu (reminds me of that joke by Almarhum Ustaz Fadzil Noor which courted some controversy, i.e. Badawi di Arab jaga unta, tapi Badawi Melayu jaga….) is as secular as they come and I don’t go into the defense of secularists. But throwing stones at glass houses are only done by senile people like the old man on BBC.
I hope he kicks the bucket sooner rather than later. He does a great disservice to the nation if he is still around.
good article. but i really do not understand pak lah. helping only big people. how abt small people like us? instead of kow towing with the lawyers, what did he give to us the little people? i’m sure the govt has money. They can built the crystal mosque, throw a concert and invite various artist, organize a dinner for Tun Salleh Abas and others, offer them the ex-Gratia, sent a person to the space, buy a new jet plane, buy submarines, built the eye of Malaysia, organize the monsoon cup, renovate the PM house and bla..bla.. just like someone pointed out to me – It seems that the government have no interest in solving the problem of the small people and only interested in addressing the problem of the big people… They are very quick in having a very nice dinner in a very posh hotel, and yet the rakyat does not benefit anything… I dont remember in the last two year that as a Rakyat, I was invited to any government function… But I remember clearly that very early this year, they sent me the usual reminder to pay my taxes before end of April.
