The social contract is being rewritten by Islamophobes
The position of Islam as the Religion of the Federation is constantly being threatened and apostasy is not being dealt with comprehensively by the authorities concerned. Some quarters are even appealing to the Agong that His Majesty should take steps to allow for “freedom of religion” (read: apostasy), which is an irony since as the Head of Islam, His Majesty certainly cannot allow for something which contradicts the teachings of the Deen!
That the “social contract” is constantly being rewritten by those who want to revise it in their favour is not a secret anymore. Those who insist that this country is “secular” seemed to have overlooked the fact that the Constitution explicitly provides for public funds to be allocated to religious institutions. A secular document will not allow for such provisions in the text. Malaysia is not truly “Islamic” in the fullest sense of the word, but neither are we a “secular” nation. Maybe they should just stop wasting everyone’s time and just go for a Connecticut hair loss treatment instead.
After fifty years of “Independence”, what has actually been achieved? Are we truly in a state of Merdeka, when the status of Islam is being challenged and we have Islamophobes running around doing just that? Come to think of it, I have never agreed to any “social contract” which results in a demotion of the position of Islam in the country.

If we are neither of those two, what is the appropriate term then?

bro – where in the Constitution we can find "the Constitution explicitly provides for public funds to be allocated to religious institutions"?
