  • This is hillarity beyond absurdity

    Overheard:

In my childhood, I hear [sic] some Imam describe [the] songkok, is a headgear that resemble the holy Ka’bah. It is a symbol of destiny that each Malay Muslim must make pilgrims to the Holy Ka’bah at least once in a life time.

Oh my God…I really am so very speechless. I really do not know what to say after reading this statement. My eyes are tearing up….from laughter! All this while, I never knew that I wore the Kaabah on my head! Forgive me, but the hilarity of this is…*guffaw*

I am sure that this misconception is not the fault of the person making this statement however, but in any case:

The songkok is merely a headgear from the Nusantara, the same as the turban from the Arab peninsula, the kaffiyyeh from Palestine or the tarboosh from Egypt. There is no religious significance attached to it.
