Tsu Koon has my respect

March 10th, 2008

Whatever it may be said about him, as someone who considers Penang to be his home state (and that despite the fact that I currently live in Barisan Rakyat-controlled Selangor), I have the outmost respect for Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and that will not change.

Tsu Koon offers to quit as Gerakan chief

Gerakan acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon has offered to resign from the party post, saying that he has to take full responsibility for the party’s dismal performance especially in Penang.

In the general elections yesterday, Gerakan was totally wiped out in the state by the DAP-led opposition, which won 29 out of 40 seats in the island state.

“As a captain of the team, I take full responsibility of what has happened,” he announced the decision at a joint press conference with DAP’s CM-designate Lim Guan Eng at the chief minister’s office in Penang this afternoon.

He is truly a real gentleman, has always been so in my opinion. When he first emerged into the political scene in 1995, I knew then that here was someone who is to be respected. It has nothing to do with my fanaticism to UMNO and its ideology. Some fifteen years later and now aligned with a prominent Islamic party, Dr. Koh Tsu Koon has never failed to earn my respect for him. His only mistake is that he had stayed in power for far too long.
